There are times when I venture out to clubs that play mostly hip hop and the DJs attempt to arouse my dancehall stimulus by playing the same 5 reggae dancehall songs that happen to be in their collection. Two-three of which are probably Sean Paul songs. (Note: Sean Paul is not the only Singjay hip hoppers enjoy) Nothing is wrong with Sean Paul, I proudly have all his albums in my collection. But that doesn’t mean you Hip-Hop/R&B DJs can’t beef up your collection with some new flavor. From what I gather a lot of Hip Hop head like dancehall in the club, even if they can’t understand the lyrics, they are definitely able to rock to the beat, and need some new ish to stimulate them too. Here is my attempt to give you some advice on what NOT to play:
1.) Sasha – Sexy Body, this song has been remixed at least 3 times to remain in regular rotation and sounds like a broken record.
2.) Mr. Vegas –Heads High, this has just been in overkill since it came out. He has since upgraded with new hits like “Hot Wuk” and “Tek Weh You Self” so you upgrade too.
3.) Any song by Red Rat – “Dwayne” “Tight Up Skirt” Etc. His voice just annoys me!
4.) Tanto Metro & Devonte – Everyone Falls in Love, Love is great and all, but please just stop.
5.) Tony Matterhorn – Dutty Wine is the most recent hit on this list. I know that this is/was a popular dance, but please, most hip hop chicks can’t do it right and will complain about the crick in their neck the next morning.
At least pick up the compilation series like Strictly the Best or Ragga Ragga to get some idea of what’s been going on in the dancehall world for the last year! And in now way, shape or form should any of these include remixes with Fat Man Scoop! Keep the authenticity of my people in the music. (News - Music) Views:
