Forbes recently released their list of “The 10 Top-Earning African American Stars” from June 2006 to June 2007. As you might expect, Oprah dominated the list, as she has done in previous years, with earnings over $260 million—that makes her the highest earning person in Hollywood. Period. Oprah is currently worth over $2.5 billion, and she runs a media empire which includes: Her talk-show, Magazine, website, broadway shows, and constant residuals from Dr. Phil and Rachael Ray. Another media outlet soon to be added to the list is TV station—Oprah signed a deal in January with the Discovery Channel to launch her own TV channel called “OWN” (Oprah Winfrey Network.)
Rappers who appear on the list include: Jay-Z (money from selling Rocawear, ownership in the Nets, record sales)/ 50-Cent (money from his record label, G-unit street fiction books, and–ofcourse—Vitamin Water!), and Will Smith (money comes from $20 million+ a film, and his production company “Overbrook Entertainment.”)
